Stretching Training Times  2011/2012

Although subject to change between terms, our current training schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: 6:30pm – 8:30pm         (Martial Arts Corridor)
  • Friday: 4:30pm – 6:30pm           (Martial Arts Corridor)
  • Sunday: 10:00am – 1:00pm        (Martial Arts Corridor)

The new Martial Arts Corridor is located in the Performance Centre (building no. 96).

Sunday sessions are taken by Master Ang, head of the Hung Kuen UK school. Monday and Friday sessions are taken by a black belt instructor. Training times and location make be subject to significant changes this term due to renovations to our regular training hall. All members will be informed of any changes in advance.

Kit and Basic Training Advice
All members are required to wear either full Kung Fu kit or appropriate loose, light sportswear. Jewellery and accessories should be removed when training, however glasses are still permitted. Members should either train barefoot or wear clean martial arts shoes. Kung Fu kit, and a white belt, can be purchased from Master Ang, bought online, or sold by any reliable martial arts retailer. Martial arts footwear can be bought through the club (we take an order once a year) or online.

Protective gear is provided by the club for use when sparring or practicing certain techniques, but members are not discouraged from purchasing their own gloves, pads, etc.

Members should always try to turn up early, as instructors like to start the sessions promptly at their designated times. As well as kit, it is advisable to bring a large bottle of water to training, to cut down on time wasted going to fetch water during sessions.

Not all members will be able to make it to every session, but the class will progress throughout the year and in order to get the maximum benefit, everyone is advised to train as often as possible.

Grades
When lining up, the class form rows of three in grade order, starting from right to left, with the senior members towards the front. For members of equal belt rank, those who graded first are considered senior. It is important to always show respect to your senior belts during training.

The following list shows the order of the belt grades:

  • Black (1st – 10th Degree)
  • 2nd Brown
  • 1st Brown
  • 2nd Blue
  • 1st Blue
  • 2nd Green
  • 1st Green
  • 2nd Yellow
  • 1st Yellow
  • White
