The competition will be taking place on Sunday 6th December, in Manchester. The coach will arrive to pick us up by the steam engine (on the far side of the union) at 7.15am. We’ll be leaving Manchester at 4pm and should arrive back in Loughborough around 6.30pm.
This is a national event, the other clubs from around the country will be entering. So, this is a great chance to test your ability against people you won’t have met before. There are two types of event you can enter; forms and sparring. Sparring consists of two categories, individual and open. In the individual sparring you’ll be seperated, roughly, based on height, weight and belt. The open, as the name suggests, is open to everyone and so is not recommended for the new members, unless you think you could take on the black belts
. More information about the competition and sparring rules can be found here.
Entry to the competition is free! Forms should already have been handed out, if you haven’t recieved one and you’d like to enter speak with Becca or Alex. You will be required to wear full kit, including belt, to participate. Since you’ll be out for the whole day it is also advisable to bring a packed lunch.
It’s good fun to take part and a great experience (sparring in class doesnt quite match up). Even if you don’t plan on participating everyone is welcome to attend and help support the club. Good luck!!

Master Ang is arranging a trip to Malaysia to train with the Grandmaster, over easter and summer. This is an incredible opportunity! If anyone is interested please speak to Master Ang, after Sunday training. Or email him at mastang@hungkuen-kungfu.com, for more details.
Capt. Jack, Alex and Adam all went on this trip last year so if you’d like to know more about what it was like then you could also have a chat with them.

Woo!! Christmas!! Our annual christmas dinner will be taking place at The Gallery, on Sunday 29th November, from 8pm.
An email has been sent out with details about the night and a menu list. Please reply to this email as soon as you can so that preparations can be made. The cost for the entire night will be £16.50, which includes a 3 course meal, DJ and a wee bit of Karaoke. Members can also bring friends along, just let one of the social secs know so they can make space. There’s gonna be a Secret Santa ‘Lucky Dip’, so everyone get out to town and find a present for £3. Try to be imaginative, wrapping up 3 pound coins will incur a punishment…
The Gallery is located in town, near Wilkinsons, a map and address can be found here. If you’re still not sure how to find it speak to one of the social secs during training.
This was one of, if not, the best social of last year so everyone is encouraged to come along. Its going to be a great night!

Grading will be taking place on Sunday 29th November at the Quorn Lecture Theatre, in EHB, between 9.30am-2pm.
It’s important you try to arrive by 9.30 to warm up and register ready for a prompt 10am start. The hall has been booked from 9.00 if you wish to turn up early to practice.
For many of you this is going to be your first grading; click here for information on what to do and what you need to bring with you on the morning. Remember to bring along your grading forms and £15, in cash or cheque, for the grading. Also, £35 is require for membership to the Hung Kuen School; this may sound like a lot but this is just a one-off fee for the year and it also entitles you to take part in the competitions for free! Cheques can be made payable to K. K. Ang.
You’ll be graded in groups starting with the white belts. The white belt grading usually takes around 10-20mins per group. Once you have finished your grading you are welcome to leave however it is respectful to be present at the end of the session to recieve your belt. It’s also worth staying to watch the senior belts grade, as you may have to do the same thing eventually.
We’ll probably start doing a lot more grading practice during training sessions so try to turn up to as many sessions as possible between now and the grading. Sunday training is ideal as Master Ang will actually be there to help, so try to take advantage of his presence.
