Freshers’ Events 2011

The Athletic Union Freshers’ Bazaar 2011
Freshers' Bazaar Display At the start of each year, the Athletic Union clubs host a weekend-long publicity event for prospective new members, and if you’re interested in joining our club we thoroughly recommend you come along and meet with us there.

This year’s event will be held on the 8th and 9th October, from 9am – 4pm, in the Sir David Wallace Building (map ref. 78).  Our club will have a stall and several of our members will be there to help answer any questions you might have and to help you sign up if you want. We will also be putting on a short display, on both days, demonstrating a number of basic and advanced Hung Kuen forms and techniques, including animal styles, weapons forms and self defence demonstrations. Our display will be at 12pm, Saturday 8th, and 3pm, Sunday 9th. Check out the gallery for photos from some of the previous years’ displays.

Taster Sessions
In addition to visiting us at the Bazaar, we recommend new members come along to a taster session before joining.  These sessions will give you a better idea about how our club trains, and whether or not our methods are suited to you and match your expectations. The first taster sessions will be held during the Week 2 of term – Wednesday 12th and Sunday 17th October. The Wednesday session will be held in the Sir David Wallace Building (map ref. 78) and the Sunday session in Victory Hall (map ref. 101).

If you cannot make it along to the Bazaar or any of the taster sessions, you are still welcome to try out a free session before signing up. We often take on new members throughout the year so if you can’t make it at the start of the year don’t feel as though you’ve missed your chance.

Heathy Living Week
Typically each year the Athletic Union hosts a week-long ‘Healthy Living’ event aimed at promoting physical activity among the student population. Many of the AU clubs host free tasters sessions during this period to promote their sport and encourage new members. If you have been interested in joining Shoalin Kung Fu, but feel like you missed out on start of the years events, then this is the perfect chance to come along and try out a session before joining. As a bonus, after the event, membership prices are usually reduced to half price (£30) for the remainder of the year!
